Get Involved
We need you to get involved in some small way to support WAGS
By more members getting just a little involved it will help build a sense of community and strengthen WAGS, we will get more feedback from you and good ideas for WAGS moving forwards. We all lead busy lives and it would be great if you could spare a little bit of your time too, and help the committee run YOUR society.
Below are areas where we need your help:
Spring Plant Sale in May
WAGS wants to buy a large quantity of bedding plant plugs to grow on for the sale, the proceeds of which help towards the cost of the autumn show. If we are to continue with this we need some more people to offer to take some of these to grow on in their greenhouse during March/April/early May (i.e. protect from frost).
Also we would love to see more members bring a few of their own spare plants for us to sell.
Newsletter Articles
We are very happy to receive any articles for the newsletters that you think would be of interest to members (e.g. growing hints, recipes, your own success or disaster stories, how you got your children involved etc.).
Advertising/Publicity
We have a number of things we need your help on:
a) Writing articles for local newspapers, Window for Wallingford, Crowmarsh News etc. promoting our activities (like the show and plant sale)
b) Leaflet drops
c) Promoting WAGS on Twitter/Facebook
d) Promoting the autumn show by placing posters in local stores/hotels etc.
e) Anything else that would get us better known!
Autumn Show
a) Responsibility for Sponsorship – contacting local companies to ask if they would sponsor us. Some are already in place that you can contact, and others have not yet been approached.
b) Contacting local schools – as a society we are very keen to involve and encourage children to grow things and particularly to enter in the autumn show, and so are looking for people willing to contact local schools and see if they want to get involved. You can simply contact the one school you know, or visit others as well.
c) Help on show day (second Saturday in September) - each of these roles need only be 1-2 hours on show Saturday and lunch will be provided
· provide cakes for us to sell with tea/coffee
· help in the kitchen serving customers
· help prepare lunch for the judges/helpers
· help as a steward supporting one of the judges
· help in the back room taking judging cards
· help tidy at the end of the day
NEXT STEP: If you can help with any one of these roles or would like more information, please contact Sue or Carolyn by emailing: [email protected]
